Bike!Bike! is an annual international conference organized by and for community bicycle projects. This conference is a space for participants from shops and related advocacy groups to converge in a different city each year over a 4 day period to have workshops and strengthen our social network.
The annual Bike!Bike! conference is hosted in a different city each year; regional Bike!Bike!s can take place at any time, in any location. A regional gathering took place on March 16-19 in Alexandria, VA, hosted by the awesome folks at VéloCity Bicycle Cooperative.
Representatives from Watch City Bike Lab traveled down to Alexandria on Amtrak (pro tip: if you take the overnight train, you can put your unboxed bike on board), and had an amazing weekend of fun, friends, and workshops all rolled up with fun rides and nighttime activities. Here’s the full schedule. We participated in workshops on Bike Coop Organization and Storage, Youth Programming, Non-Profit and Co-op Organizational Leadership, Strategic Planning, Women/Trans/Femme Programming, Bike Distribution Programs, and Community Bike Shop Software.
But it wasn’t all work and no play! We went on a bike tour of nearby Washington, DC, led by Jerry from VéloCity, and we rode over to Gearin’Up Bicycles, a full-service community shop with a focus on creating career development and workplace opportunities for youth.
The group also hooked up with Rolling Resistance, a Women/Trans/Femme Alleycat that raced all around the city.
